What we list
SA Lead GEN lists businesses, so that other businesses can offer them products and services. For each business we hold its name, trade and location; the cellphone number and email address it publishes; its website and social media pages; the name and job title of a contact person where one is known; and facts about its website.
Where it comes from
- OpenStreetMap, the open map anyone can edit, where businesses and their customers list names, trades, addresses and the numbers the business publishes (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL).
- The business's own website: the owner, director or manager a business names on its own pages, with the job title it gives them; the email addresses it publishes there (on its own domain, or a free email service it uses), including a contact person's own work address; and what the website shows about the company, such as whether it works, the platform it runs on and whether it sells or takes bookings online. We read only what a website makes public, follow its robots.txt instructions, and keep the address of the page a contact person's name came from.
- Our customers, after they call a business: who answered and whether the number works. A name a customer gives is shown to others only once customers agree on it.
- The business itself, when it manages its listing: who suppliers should ask for, whether they may phone, and what it wants to buy.
What we don't do
- We don't copy data from LinkedIn or other social networks, or from directories whose terms forbid it.
- We don't buy or resell contact lists from other data companies.
- We don't hold home addresses, identity numbers or any private, non-business details.
- We don't send marketing messages to the businesses we list.
Why this is allowed
The Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) allows information to be processed for legitimate interests, and allows information a business has deliberately made public to be collected and used for a compatible purpose. Contact details a business publishes so that people can reach it are used here for just that: business-to-business contact. Our customers must follow POPIA when they make contact, including the Information Regulator's rules on consent for direct-marketing calls, SMSes and emails (see our terms). A business that has agreed to supplier calls is marked as such.
Your rights
- See or correct what we hold about your business: email our Information Officer, Katlego Thipe, at lehlohonoloasonya@gmail.com.
- Change your listing or say whether suppliers may phone you: manage your listing with a code sent to the listed cellphone number.
- Remove your business straight away through your listing, or ask us to remove it. We then hide it from every customer, erase its phone number, email and contact person, and don't list that number or email again.
- Complain: if you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.
